Certificate in Computational Modeling
The graduate certificate program in computational modeling provides knowledge, tools, and techniques to those who are working in, or planning to work in, the field of computational modeling. The program is appropriate for those who cannot complete all the requirements for a master's degree in operations research or in statistical science. Courses taken for this certificate program can count toward an M.S. in Operations Research, an M.S. in Statistical Science, or a Ph.D. in Computational Sciences and Informatics. One must be concurrently enrolled in the program for courses to count toward both the certificate and the degree.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following entrance requirements:
- Minimum entrance requirements for the Master of Science in Operations Research or in Statistical Science:
Applicants should have an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution and a GPA of at least 3.0 in their last 60 credits of undergraduate education. Applicants should have taken the following George Mason courses or their equivalent: Math 113, Math 114, MATH 203 or MATH 322, and MATH 213. STAT 344 and STAT 354 are also required, and applicants should have knowledge of at least one scientific computer programming language.
- Minimum entrance requirements for the Ph.D. in Computational Sciences and Informatics:
Applicants should have an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution and a GPA of at least 3.0 in their last 60 credits of study. Applicants should have an academic background in material sciences, engineering, mathematics, computer science, or natural science.

- OR 541 Operations Research: Deterministic models
- OR 635 Discrete Systems Simulation
and 3 credits chosen from the following:
- OR 682 Computational Methods in Engineering and Statistics
or
